Son Mission is moving into the second year of inception. Our primary focus is, “Making disciples from Jesus’ sacrificial grace.” We are driven by the conviction that fast-food ministry is not at the heart of the gospel. We develop intentionally-driven, gospel-centered relationships - with the hopeful prayer that students will be transformed by Jesus’ sacrificial love. In essence, we seek to grow with and intimately know the children and families we serve. Son Mission is currently planted in the Busia District of Uganda, Africa where we use a threefold approach to make disciples: (1) equipping mentors (2) teaching God’s word (3) serving orphans: First, we equip mentors. We build relationships with born-again believers who are saturated in gospel-centered community: hungry to share and live out the gospel. We equip mentors with gospel-centered materials (i.e. Bibles, discipleship materials, and other resources specific to their role); salaries to carry out the mission and take care of their loved ones; and gospel-centered organization and training (i.e. vision casting, connecting with community leaders, schools, and churches). Son Mission has expanded the Busia District team from 3 to 5: adding 2 more mentors. Learn more: sonmission.org/mentors Second, we teach God’s word. We value the transformative power of God’s word by teaching His word in public and private schools: prayerfully hoping for students to be transformed by Jesus, not just informed with information. East Africa is consumed with many false teachers and doctrines. We freely give students Bibles and teach year-long gospel-centered courses, so that students have the opportunity to earnestly accept Jesus Christ and stay planted on His unshakable foundation. In 2018, Son Mission is teaching two (one year-long) gospel-centered courses in 5 schools to over 200 students. Learn more: sonmission.org/discipleshipclasses Third, we serve orphans. God is clear that Christians must be the voice for the voiceless. There are billions of needs in Africa and all over the world: physical and spiritual. We can’t do everything, but we can start with someone. We saw a specific need for orphans who are nearing the end of middle school, but do not have the funds to continue into high school. Learn more: sonmission.org/education By God’s grace, Son Mission was able to give 8 orphans the opportunity to attend a Christian boarding school called Howard Christian High School. They are enrolled this year and started already! This is amazing for so many reasons. Son Mission hopes to serve more orphans with this same opportunity come 2019. Discover how you can change a life today: sonmission.org/secondarysupport By God’s grace, I was able to accumulate enough vacation time to spend 13 days in Uganda earlier this year. How good is God? I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to continue the work the Lord set out before me in 2016. So much was accomplished in such short time. I was overjoyed to be back and was received with much joy by so many brothers and sisters in Christ. My time was filled with work from sun up to sun down. I had the opportunity to preach three times in the book of Colossians. It took me 1 hour to preach through two verses: so much to unpack in God’s word! Additionally, I casted vision and trained the Busia District team on the new discipleship materials that will be taught in 2018. And finally, we enrolled 8 orphans into Howard Christian High School as boarding students. This was such an amazing experience. These children are overjoyed to have the opportunity to continue their education and lay their heads on mattresses. This is the first time they have slept on mattresses and attended a school that offers sports and self-sustaining agricultural training. The Busia District team praises God for the supporters who have selflessly given to theses specific children. What a wonderful opportunity for them! We pray that God will use this educational opportunity to grow them in maturity, knowledge, skill, and worth. But most of all, for the testimony of Jesus Christ in their lives to spread throughout their sphere of influence. Son Mission’s ultimate goal is to make disciples from Jesus’ sacrificial grace. This year (and beyond 2018) we seek doing this by planting discipleship classes in more Primary schools, serving more orphans with Secondary education, and adding more mentors to the Busia District team. Son Mission’s longer term goals are attaining a 501c3 status, planting in more countries, and eventually having the means to send full-time missionaries into the field. If 1 of the 200 students earnestly receive Jesus Christ this year, we praise God. If 0 of the 200 students earnestly receive Jesus Christ this year, we praise God. True success isn’t measured by the number of salvations but rather the faithfulness to God’s Spirit and Word.
